Rogue Wilderness Adventures Introduces Bettys with Backpacks: Women-Only
Hiking Trips Along Oregon’s Rogue River
This season, leave the hairdryer behind, grab your best girlfriend, sister or mom and hit the trail. Rogue Wilderness Adventures, a pioneer in hiking and rafting adventure trips along the Rogue River, is now offering "Bettys with Backpacks"—four-day, women-only hikes along the Rogue River Trail in the stunning Rogue River Wilderness of Oregon.
The Rogue River National Recreation Trail from Grave Creek to Foster Bar is in the heart of the National Wild and Scenic Rogue River Canyon. This is a 44-mile trail that was originally built by miners, and there are five historic lodges along the trail that were built in the early 1900s and can only be accessed by foot or raft. Rogue Wilderness Adventures takes adventurous women on these treks, recently named “One of the Best Treks in the World” by Outside’s Go Magazine.
Departing from Grants Pass, Ore., participants will hike between 10 and 15 miles a day. Supported by supply boats, the Rogue Wilderness Adventures staff will carry guest bags, supplies and a favorite case of wine for relaxing under the Oregon stars after a full day of activity. Hikers will be amazed at the breathtaking scenery that awaits them as they wind above the river of this 110-year-old trail. Each night, hikers arrive at a historic lodge and relax in front of the fire as the lodge staff prepares a hearty meal. Lodging is in cabins that sleep two people each with private bathrooms, and serene nights spent in the wilderness will be conducive to deep and all-encompassing relaxation.
These hikes are adventures in solitude—they give the visitor a new perspective while witnessing the beauty of the river corridor and enjoying the benefits of the preservation of this area. Adventurers get the chance to learn about the history of this part of the country while enjoying the quiet scenery and opportunities to spot wildlife like bears, deer and eagles. When legs get rubbery from hiking too much, or a change in scenery is needed, the supply boats pick up weary hikers so that they can kick back, relax and enjoy a float trip down the beautiful Rogue River.
Rogue Wilderness Adventures was recently named “One of the Best Outfitters on Earth” by National Geographic Adventure Magazine. All trips are four days/three nights and include guides, equipment, lodging, meals and transportation to and from the trail. Trip start dates are May 7, 2009; May 26, 2009; and Sept. 20, 2009.
