Orvis Fly-Fishing Schools, renown for some of the best fishing instructors in the world, is offering a deal worth snapping up: Book a June school through April 30 and bring a friend for half price.
A two-day class will teach you everything you need to know to embark on a lifetime of angling enjoyment, whether you plan to stalk brook trout in the Adirondacks, cutthroats in Montana or sailfish off Baja.
Orvis Fly-Fishing Schools are situated in spectacular locations that offer plenty of activities for anglers and non-anglers alike. The flagship Fly-Fishing School in Manchester, Vt.—the premier such school in the country—is set in the heart of the Green Mountains and just a stone’s throw from the famed Battenkill.
Here's what you'll learn in a two-day class:
• Fly casting techniques
• Essential fly fishing knots
• How to choose your gear and tackle
• Stream entomolgy (the science of insects)
• Proper fly selection
• How to read water and currents
• How to play, land, and safely release fish
The price of the school includes use of Orvis fly rods/reels, leaders, flies, and where necessary waders, vests and fishing licenses. You can bring your own fly fishing equipment if you prefer. Lunch is included, but lodging is not. Class size ranges from 12 to 36 students, always with a ratio of one instructor for every four students. Instruction is available for all ability levels—in fly casting lessons the instruction is adjusted to the individual student's level.
