O.A.R.S. Signs 10-Year Contract with
Grand Teton National Park, Launches
Trips on Snake River and Jackson Lake

O.A.R.S. West will launch rafting trips on Wyoming's Snake River and sea kayaking tours of Jackson Lake for Summer 2010. O.A.R.S. West, a subsidiary of the O.A.R.S. Family of Companies (O.A.R.S.), has been selected as a Grand Teton National Park service concessions provider. The 40-year-old international whitewater rafting, sea kayaking and multi-sport adventure travel company secured a 10-year contract to operate the trips.

Flowing west from its source in the Teton Wilderness, the Snake River enters Yellowstone National Park, then flows south into Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Floating the multiple channels under the quintessential mountain peaks of the Tetons is an experience few ever forget.

The Teton Range—with peaks rising as much as 7,000 feet off the valley floor—is the centerpiece of Grand Teton National Park. The park, in northwestern Wyoming, is Yellowstone National Park’s southern neighbor and is famous for its snow-capped, craggy peaks that protrude above the Snake River and Jackson Hole. The Teton Range is in the heart of the last nearly intact temperate ecosystem in North America. Roaming the countryside surrounding the Grand Teton mountains are buffalo, moose, pronghorn antelope and elk, and beavers, muskrats, waterfowl, as well as an occasional river otter, inhabit the park’s ponds.

O.A.R.S. guests on the Jackson Lake kayaking trip are the only outfitted paddlers authorized to spend nights on Jackson Lake. O.A.R.S. provides everything you need to sea kayak, raft, hike and sightsee your way to some of the most extraordinary sites in the Grand Teton National Park. The company's special permits allow you to see breathtaking landscapes from unique perspectives while professional guides share their in-depth knowledgeable of the area.

O.A.R.S. President and Founder George Wendt said from his Northern California headquarters, “This 10-year contract for which O.A.R.S. has been selected is quite unique. In addition to being able to run guided rafting trips on the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, we are the only company authorized to run sea kayaking trips on the beautiful waters of Jackson Lake, located at the base of the spectacular Grand Teton mountain range. Additionally, we are the only river and lake concessioner to be permitted to operate overnight trips in Grand Teton National Park.”

Wendt continued, “One of the camps that we will use is especially unique. Located near the scenic western shore of Jackson Lake, the Grassy Island camp provides unforgettable views of Mt. Moran and other peaks in the Teton Range.”

O.A.R.S. will be offering trips in Grand Teton National Park ranging from one day and one night to trips of three days and longer. With the company’s camps at three different locations on Jackson Lake, the company anticipates that many passengers will opt for a five- or six-day trip as part of a very unique multi-sport vacation that includes a visit to neighboring Yellowstone National Park.

The National Park Service selects a limited number of private companies to operate in approximately 135 parks in the National Park System. Concessions contracts are issued to businesses that provide a variety of commercial visitor services ranging from restaurants, lodging, gift shops, backcountry guides, horseback rides, whitewater rafting and a variety of other services unique to the National Park Service.
