New England Telemark Festivals Share the Joy of Telemark Skiing and the Backcountry

New England Telemark will be back at two of its favorite ski resorts in February for its well-known telemark festivals. The Stowe Telemark Festival and Eastern Slopestyle Championships is set for Feb. 10, 2007. Sunday River, Maine, will host the Maine Telemark Festival and Eastern Mogul Championships on Feb. 24, 2007.

New England Telemark (NET) holds its festivals to grow the sport of telemark skiing, to educate the public in the joys of telemark and backcountry skiing and to expose telemark skiers to all the related products available. NET is a group of telemark instructors dedicated to the teaching of the telemark turn and is is the only PSIA certified "telemark only" ski school in the United States.

The Stowe Telemark Festival includes free clinics, free demos and a slopestyle competition. All clinics are 90 minutes and participants can choose between a 10:30 a.m. class or a 1:30 p.m. class. Clinics cover all ability levels, including first-timers and cross-overs coming from Alpine skiing. Women's clinics, master clinics and clinics taught in French also are offered. A pair of Bomber Bishop bindings will be raffled. Other raffles and prizes include Hammerhead bindings, Atomic and K2 skis, and products from Voile, Garmont and G3.

The Maine Telemark Festival includes free clinics, free demos, a costume contest, and a mogul competition. All clinics are 90 minutes and participants can choose between a 10:30 a.m. class or a 1:30 p.m. class. Clinics cover all ability levels, including first-timers and cross-overs coming from Alpine skiing. A variety of specialty clinics will be offered, including women only, master, conditions-specific technique, trees and glades, and moguls. A pair of Bomber Bishop bindings will be raffled. Other raffles and prizes include bindings, Atomic skis, helmets, boots, poles and gloves.

Originating in Maine in the early 1990s, NET now includes more than 30 instructors that come together to teach at the organization's telemark festivals and clinics around New England.
