Blues, Brews & Barbecue Festival at
Beaver Creek Kicks Off Summer Season
The Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival in Beaver Creek is a welcome signal that summer and the barbecue season have started in the mountains. You can savor creations from some of the nation’s top barbecue chefs and enjoy live blues from renown bands and musicians. In addition, The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek presents the state’s largest exclusively Colorado-based Microbrewery Beer Tasting. The festival takes place over Memorial Day Weekend, May 26–27, 2007.
Legendary blues guitarist and keyboardist Ron Thompson, harmonica virtuoso Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, and rising star Joe Bonamassa will rock the outdoor plaza both days during free concerts from noon to 6 p.m.
Participating restaurants include Fiorella's Jack Stack of Kansas City, Mo.; Smokin' Guns of Kansas City, Mo.; Pink Flamingo of Ft. Smith, Ark.; Q of Albuquerque, N.M.; Smokey D’s of Des Moines, Iowa; Dr. BBQ of Lakeland, Fla.; Sweet Mama's BBQ of Westminster, Colo.; Over the Fence BBQ of Thorton, Colo.; Moe’s BBQ of Eagle , Colo.; and Kirby Cosmo’s BBQ Bar of Minturn, Colo. Several Beaver Creek restaurants also will participate. Cooking demonstrations ensure you bring home some recipes for your own barbecues.
"Beaver Creek’s Blues, Brews and Barbecue festival is a fitting start to the summer season in the Colorado Rocky Mountains," said Tony O’Rourke, executive director of the Beaver Creek Resort Company. "Enjoying time outdoors—taking in an open-air concert, feasting on mouth-watering barbecue, savoring a cold Colorado brew—offers a true summer mountain experience."
The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek hosts the largest exclusively Colorado Microbrewery Beer Tasting in the state from 1–5 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. The Tasting features more than 100 special concoctions from 30 Colorado-based breweries. Tickets for this tasting event are $35 per person in advance or $40 per person at the door. Call (970) 949-1234 for ticket information.
To make sure that you work off at least some of the calories, scenic chairlift rides are available for a fee 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. for the long weekend of May 26–28. At the top of the lift, you'll find an 18-hole championship disc golf course, tetherball, football, a children's sandbox and an orienteering course. Another option is to grab a summer trail map and hike awhile. Or take your mountain bike (or a rental) up the chairlift and ride down the mountain on one of the resort's designated bike trails.
The Blues, Blues & BBQ Festival offers free admission. Food and beverages are available for purchase. For more information and lodging packages, visit www.beavercreek.com or call (970) 845-9090.
