Reminder: Passports Required for Air Travel to United States as of Jan. 23, 2007

The Departments of State and Homeland Security recently announced that citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda will be required to present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere beginning on Jan. 23, 2007.

This change in travel document requirements is the result of recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission, which Congress subsequently passed into law in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. These new travel document requirements make up the Departments' Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). In order to obtain national security benefits as quickly as possible, and to expedite the processing of arriving passengers, the plan will be implemented in two phases.

Celebrate Winter at Breckenridge's Ullr Fest

You probably don't need to hear anything other than the winter storm reports for Colorado to know this is the perfect time to head to Breckenridge for fabulous snow conditions, but just in case you need another incentive: One of the coolest winter festivals we've ever been to is Breckenridge's Ullr Fest, which is scheduled for Jan. 5–12, 2007.

The locals go absolutely wild during this celebration that pays homage to the mythical Norse god of snow, Ullr. The town is overrun with Ullr-look-alikes who know how to have more than just a good time. A week-long schedule of events range from the Ullympics and Ullr Bonfire to the famous and unofficial world's craziest Ullr Fest Parade down Main Street.

Add Heli-Skiing to Your Whistler Vacation and Say You Tried to Ski Half a Million Acres

Whistler Blackcomb acquired Whistler Heli-Skiing in a transaction this fall, making it beyond simple to add heli-skiing to your Whistler vacation. The purchase adds Whistler Heli-Skiing's tenure of 494,000 acres throughout the Whistler backcountry to Whistler Blackcomb's 8,171 acres of inbounds skiing, creating a ski area of 502,171 acres or 785 square miles (we know you'll never ski all that in one vacation, but it sure sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it?).

The four previous owners of Whistler Heli-Skiing—Doug O'Mara, John Hetherington, Andrew Wilkins and Ken Hardy—are still actively involved in the business. They provide management and expert guiding for Whistler Heli-Skiing while Whistler Blackcomb will provide added sales, marketing and operational support.

Step Up to the Next Level with Okemo's Women's Alpine Adventures Program

Women return year after year to join the Women’s Alpine Adventures at Okemo. The program is designed exclusively for women and led by some of the best female ski and snowboard coaches in the industry. I haven't taken the clinics, but several friends have and they all rave about this program. If you are bummed about the lack of snow in the East, this clinic will be the perfect way to work on technique, learn skills in inconsistent snow coverage and help you set new goals for the rest of the season.

The two-, three-, and five-day programs allow women skiers and snowboarders to take their enjoyment of the sport to a new level. Participants quickly overcome fear, boost their confidence and meet new friends in a supportive and social environment. This season’s first session begins Jan. 8, 2007.
