Travelers heading to Hawai‘i this fall will find plenty of options to save on their vacation thanks to a travel promotion launched by the Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau HVCB) and its partners.

Travelers will save at least $200 per person on their trip to the Hawaiian Islands through HVCB’s partnership with American Airlines Vacations, American Express, Classic Vacations, Expedia, NWA WorldVacations, Orbitz, Pleasant Holidays, Travelocity, and United Vacations. These partners offer travelers money-saving air vacation packages loaded with incentives including deeply discounted airfare, free hotel room nights, free meals, free rental cars, and free food and beverage dining credits. These value packages offer significant savings and make Hawai‘i a competitive vacation destination this fall.

Construction Begins on Flagstaff Lake Hut, Second in Maine Huts & Trails System

Construction has begun on a remote hut on the eastern shore of Flagstaff Lake, for which Maine Huts & Trails received unanimous approval from the Land Use Regulation Commision (LURC) in early March.

The Flagstaff Lake Hut is the second of a proposed 12-hut system to be built in western Maine over the next five to seven years. Upon completion, the Maine Huts & Trails hut-to-hut network will consist of a 180-mile recreation corridor from Bethel to Moosehead Lake and huts designed to accommodate up to 40 guests. Maine Huts & Trails opened its first facility, Poplar Stream Falls Hut, in February 2008. It is 10 trail miles south of the Lake Flagstaff Hut in Carrabassett Valley.

New Air Access and Travel Programs Make It Easier to Fly, Play and Stay at Crested Butte

Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) and the Gunnison Valley Rural Transportation Authority have teamed up to increase the amount of seats flying into Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport for the 2008/09 winter season. In addition to the new flights from new destinations, CBMR is providing travelers with incentives to make traveling to the destination easier with a special "Friends & Family Fly Free" promotion and a $30 First Baggage credit offer.

Passport Card Available For Travel by Land and Sea Between U.S. and Adjacent Nations

The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that the new U.S. Passport Card is in full production. The Passport Card is a convenient, wallet-sized document for land and sea travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. It is not valid for international travel by air.

Beginning in June 2009, travelers will be required to present a single Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document denoting both citizenship and identity when entering the United States through a land or sea border. The Passport Card fulfills that requirement.
