Attention Skiers and Riders: Time to Think About Season Passes, Discounts End Soon

Most major North American ski resorts have a graduated purchase timeline that rewards early buyers with discounted season pass prices. With each deadline, the price increases, and in this tough economy, it makes more sense than ever to buy your pass as early as possible. Typical deadlines are Labor Day, Columbus Day and Halloween, but in truth they seem to fall willy-nilly all over the calendar. Suffice it to say that if you snooze, you lose. Many resorts have rolled out a variety of passes with legitimate choices so you can find a pass that's economically right for you: unlimited skiing and riding, midweek only, weekend only, 10 days, 20 days and just about everything else a marketing guru can think of to entice you into buying. Keep an open mind and you should find something in your budget and perhaps you'll even discover a new resort.

But what if you don't want to tie yourself down to one resort all season? Ticket prices at the window can be prohibitive to some skiers and riders. So consider passes that allow skiing and riding at a variety of resorts. For example, the limited-time-only $10 Colorado GEMS Card offers free skiing, two-for-one tickets or discounted tickets at nine resorts (Arapahoe Basin, Eldora Mountain Resort, Loveland Ski Area, Monarch Mountain, Powderhorn Resort, Ski Cooper, SolVista Basin, Sunlight Mountain Resort, and Echo Mountain). The SnowBomb Tahoe Card gives you access to free skiing and discounted tickets at more than 15 Tahoe-area resorts (plus Mammoth), discounted lodging and dining, and free or discounted gear rentals and tune-ups. The Ski NH Anywhere Anytime Ticket Package allows you to select a minimum of 12 tickets to the New Hampshire resorts of your choice for discounted ticket prices. An extra bonus here is they are transferable, so you can share them with family and friends.

Abundant Fall Foliage Deals Are Designed
to Entice You to Get Outdoors and Play

If you haven't already booked a fall trip, the slew of last-minute deals should spur you into action. Fall's cooler weather brings a welcome reprieve to summer outdoor recreation such as hiking, biking, paddling, climbing and flyfishing. Add brilliant colors, migrating birds and active animals preparing for the upcoming winter, and you've got plenty of good reasons to immerse yourself in nature.

Look for tempting deals designed to lure you into visiting this fall. Many hotels are offering discounted nights, complimentary nights or value-added coupons to be used for activities, dining and spa treatments. The hotels touting the best deals tend to be upscale, since even the wealthiest travelers are cutting back and hotels are desperate to fill empty rooms. If you belong to a hotel loyalty program, you might even score bonus points for your stay.
