Rogue Wilderness Adventures Introduces Bettys with Backpacks: Women-Only
Hiking Trips Along Oregon’s Rogue River

This season, leave the hairdryer behind, grab your best girlfriend, sister or mom and hit the trail. Rogue Wilderness Adventures, a pioneer in hiking and rafting adventure trips along the Rogue River, is now offering "Bettys with Backpacks"—four-day, women-only hikes along the Rogue River Trail in the stunning Rogue River Wilderness of Oregon.

The Rogue River National Recreation Trail from Grave Creek to Foster Bar is in the heart of the National Wild and Scenic Rogue River Canyon. This is a 44-mile trail that was originally built by miners, and there are five historic lodges along the trail that were built in the early 1900s and can only be accessed by foot or raft. Rogue Wilderness Adventures takes adventurous women on these treks, recently named “One of the Best Treks in the World” by Outside’s Go Magazine.

Georgia State Parks Launches Paddling Club

Georgia’s State Park System has unveiled a new club just for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. The Park Paddlers Club includes six state parks with waterways ranging from tidal rivers to the celebrated Okefenokee Swamp. Members can earn a bragging-rights t-shirt by paddling all 22 miles at Crooked River, George L. Smith, Magnolia Springs, Reed Bingham, Stephen C. Foster and Sweetwater Creek state parks.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ new commissioner, who is a long-time kayaker, announced the Park Paddlers Club during the department ’s annual Weekend for Wildlife fundraising event.

Grand Canyon National Park Now Accepting Applications for Colorado River Permits

The National Park Service is now accepting applications for noncommercial river trip permits to raft the Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park. The permits are for specific launch dates within calendar year 2010.

A total of 266 permits will be awarded for 12- to 25-day river trips. Eligible individuals can apply online at the weighted lottery website.
