Reminder: New U.S. Land Border Crossing Requirements Go into Effect Jan. 31, 2008
Currently, upon entering the United States at a land border port of entry, an individual without documentation can simply verbally claim to be a U.S. or Canadian citizen. Starting Jan. 31, 2008, the Department of Homeland Security is ending this practice of oral declarations.
This change affects all U.S. and Canadian citizens entering the United States by land or sea—including pleasure vessel or ferry. Travelers ages 19 and older will be asked to present certain documentation from a specified list to prove both identity and citizenship when entering the United States at land or sea ports of entry.
Hotwire.com Eliminates All Air Booking Fees
Hotwire.com has permanently eliminated its airline ticket booking fees. The booking fee elimination applies to both opaque and retail listings on all flights, reinforcing the company’s commitment to help consumers travel well for less.
"It will help customers save even more money during this period of increased air travel costs," said Eric Grosse, senior vice president and general manager at Hotwire.com. "We already offer some of the best travel deals in the business. Our decision to continue our no-booking-fee policy reinforces our commitment to deliver low prices on travel."
JetBlue Airways Signs Deals to Sell Seats on Expedia, Priceline and Orbitz Travel Sites
Low-fare carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. has signed deals with Expedia Inc., Priceline.com Inc. and Orbitz Worldwide under which JetBlue's published fares, schedules and inventory are now available to leisure travelers booking trips through these travel sites.
The deal with Expedia Inc. makes JetBlue seat inventory available to leisure travelers through Expedia.com and Hotwire.com. The agreement with Orbitz Worldwide means seats are available through its Orbitz.com and CheapTickets.com sites. With Priceline.com Inc., travelers can find JetBlue seats on the Priceline.com site.
Annual Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Fest Celebrates Backcountry Skiing and Riding
The Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Fest in Nelson, B.C., is a grassroots gathering to celebrate deep snow, backcountry skiing and snowboarding. The event, set for Feb. 22–25, 2008, was created to promote the terrain, climate, magic, fun and knowledge of backcountry skiing and snowboarding.
Telemark skiers, alpine touring skiers and backcountry snowboarders meet at the base of Whitewater Winter Resort for a long weekend of skiing, snowboarding, skinning, clinics, slide shows, movies and revelry. The event is designed for both experienced and debutant backcountry skiers and snowboarders.
